Privacy Policy — Margin (Notes Abbreviator)

Margin is a browser extension that compresses text into shorthand using dictionaries you control. This policy explains exactly what data is and isn't handled.

The short version

Your notes never leave your device. Margin does not run analytics, does not track your browsing, and does not sell or share your data with anyone. The only personal information involved is the email address you optionally provide to start a trial or purchase a license, which is handled by our payment provider — not by us directly.

Text you abbreviate

All abbreviation happens locally, in your browser, on your device. Text you type or paste into the popup, and text you select and run through the "Abbreviate & Copy" feature, is processed in memory and never transmitted to us or any third party. We never see, store, or log your notes.

Your dictionaries and settings

Your custom dictionaries and preferences are stored using Chrome's built-in storage (chrome.storage.sync). If you are signed into Chrome, this lets the same dictionaries appear on your other signed-in browsers. This data is stored within your own Google account by Chrome's sync service; it is not sent to or accessible by us. You can erase it at any time using the "Restore defaults" button or by removing the extension.

Trial & payment information

Trials and one-time purchases are processed by ExtensionPay and Stripe. When you start a trial or buy a license, you provide your email address to ExtensionPay, and payment details are entered directly with Stripe. We use this only to verify your premium status. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. Their handling of this data is governed by the ExtensionPay and Stripe privacy policies.

Permissions we request, and why

• storage — save and sync your dictionaries and settings.
• contextMenus — add the right-click "Abbreviate & Copy" item for premium users.
• scripting & activeTab — only when you click that menu item, place the abbreviated text on your clipboard in the current tab. We do not read page content otherwise.
• extensionpay.com access — required by the payment library to confirm your license status.

Data selling and tracking

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, build user profiles, or use it to determine creditworthiness. There are no third-party trackers or analytics SDKs in this extension.

Children

Margin is a general productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
