Margin is a free browser extension that compresses text into shorthand using dictionaries you control. This policy explains exactly what data is and isn't handled.
Your notes never leave your device. Margin does not run analytics, does not track your browsing, and does not collect, store, sell, or share your data with anyone. The extension is free and does not process any payments.
All abbreviation happens locally, in your browser, on your device. Text you type or paste into the popup, and text you select and run through the "Abbreviate & Copy" feature, is processed in memory and never transmitted to us or any third party. We never see, store, or log your notes.
Your custom dictionaries and preferences are stored using Chrome's built-in storage (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local). If you are signed into Chrome, sync lets the same dictionaries appear on your other signed-in browsers. This data is stored within your own Google account by Chrome's sync service; it is not sent to or accessible by us. You can erase it at any time using the "Restore defaults" button or by removing the extension.
Margin is free to use. If you choose to support development, the extension links to an external page hosted on Ko-fi. Any donation is handled entirely by Ko-fi and its payment providers on their own website. We do not receive, process, or store your name, email, or payment details through the extension. Ko-fi's handling of that information is governed by the Ko-fi privacy policy.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, build user profiles, or use it to determine creditworthiness. There are no third-party trackers or analytics SDKs in this extension.
Margin is a general productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
